Prepare yourself for leading employers

Which employers use Kenexa tests?

Many businesses use Kenexa tests to help them find the best talent when they’re at the screening stage of recruiting, and many continue using the tests right up to the point of hire — so it’s best to get one step ahead and prepare.

Companies such as Balfour Beatty use the Kenexa numerical reasoning test to find candidates with a natural aptitude for numbers, while Grant Thornton uses the Kenexa numerical and verbal reasoning tests to screen for candidates with both excellent numerical and communication skills.

Other big names using Kenexa tests in their recruitment process include global investment banks Nomura and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

How to prepare for Kenexa tests

The most important thing you can do is practice. The more mock Kenxa tests you take, the better equipped you’ll be on the day to answer the questions quickly, confidently and accurately.

Try to find out as much as you can about which tests you’ll be taking and at what point in the recruitment process. This will help you to better plan what to spend your time and energy looking at.

From there, start with your weaker areas and dedicate more time to them by practising test questions, reviewing your work and identifying where you went wrong.

It’s always wise to take tests under timed conditions so you get used to it, and in a quiet location if that’s possible.

The more you put in, the more you’ll get out.

How to pass Kenexa tests

Here are five tips to help you pass any Kenexa test:

1. Vary your preparation

While the importance of practising Kenexa tests can’t be overstated, there are other ways to prepare yourself mentally. Whether it’s reading passages of text and getting a friend to ask you questions in preparation for the verbal reasoning, or reading business finance articles to ensure you feel confident with the terminology, it all helps to boost your confidence.

2. Read the questions carefully

You may be under considerable pressure to answer quickly, but failing to read the question properly could cost you more if you don’t understand what’s being asked of you. Watch out for double negatives in the verbal reasoning test in particular. Little tricks like this might catch you out – but not if you’re prepared.

3. Use logic if you are unsure

You’re not always going to be sure of the answer. If that’s the case, don’t panic. Try to use logic to discount any answers that are not correct. Once left with only two options, it’s much easier to make an educated guess.

4. Check the clock

It’s easy to get caught up on a tricky question and let time get away from you. At the start of each test, quickly work out how long you have to answer each question, and try your best to stick to it. You can always return to hard questions at the end of the test if you have time remaining.

5. Do not get caught out

The questions aren’t designed to be easy, as employers want to hire the best candidates. So don’t let the questions or information given to you in the test catch you out. Some of it may be unnecessary or worded in a way designed to confuse. The more you practice the better you’ll get at identifying any areas that could trip you up.

It was helpful getting a sense of what questions I might encounter when I take the actual test next week.

  • United States of America

    May 20, 2022

    20 mins went by quickly!

I think the test holds some level of difficulty and you need to be quick at mathematics, other than your understanding of the question and reasoning!

  • United States of America

    April 28, 2022

This test is math & statistical reasoning heavy

I liked that the graphics were clearly displayed and hyperlinked for details. I disliked that the questions often built on each other without letting the test taker know that they could return to the previous question for reference. Very stressful! I realized it too late.

  • Indonesia

    April 25, 2022

Quite difficult! But helped a lot!

There's a ton of numerical data to look out to. So it is quite tricky to do the test. But overall, it is very enjoyable!

    Timings in numerical reasoning

What I like about this test is that we are chasing time when answering the numerical test. While answering this test, I needed to think as fast as I could. We need to answer the questions correctly and we also need to practice hard, so we can do better.
