Careers at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG)
The London Stock Exchange Group has a strong reputation, operating a range of bond, derivatives and international equity markets including London Stock Exchange and Borsa Italiana. It also operates MTS, Europe’s leading electronic fixed-income trading market, and Turquoise, a pan-European equities MTF.
LSEG’s high profile means the recruitment process is stringent. LSEG looks to add only the top talent to its global team. It offers graduate and internship programmes, as well as roles for experienced hires.
The LSEG summer internship programme is for penultimate-year students and is used to scout talent for the graduate programme.
The graduate programme has two strands on offer – technology or business – and they both consist of two six-month rotations within the firm.
Experienced hires can search and apply for current vacancies via the LSEG Careers site.
As the Group leads the way in a variety of fields – including post-trade and risk management services, indexing and analytic solutions, trading platforms and capital markets software – there are opportunities available for candidates from a range of academic and career backgrounds.

The multi-stage LSEG application process is designed to test whether a candidate is suitable for a role and a good fit within the company’s culture and ways of working.
Psychometric testing forms a significant part of the process, as these tests enable LSEG to test a candidate’s mental agility across a variety of skill sets. The tests are early-stage, as they are an efficient way of streamlining the applicant pool which, as roles are in demand, can be large.
A high score on these assessments will allow you to progress to the interview stage.
Regardless of the level of position you are applying for, the recruitment process at LSEG follows a similar format, which is outlined below.
LSEG online application form
The first stage of the recruitment process is applying to your chosen role or programme via the LSEG website.
Once you have selected the vacancy, you can access the online application form by creating a user account. The form requires you to upload your CV.
There is also an option to apply via LinkedIn but, if you have the time to dedicate, it is recommended to apply in full using the online form.
London Stock Exchange Aptitude Tests
LSEG numerical reasoning tests
Numerical reasoning tests are used by LSEG to test a candidate’s ability with numbers. Given the nature of the company, a methodical and mathematical brain is one of the key qualities sought.
The numerical test is administered by SHL and is a timed assessment. It contains multiple-choice questions on arithmetic, as well as the interpretation of data in diagrams, graphs and tables.
It is important to prepare for the test through adequate practice, ensuring that you can answer all the questions quickly and accurately to achieve a high score on test day.
LSEG verbal reasoning tests
Verbal reasoning tests assess a candidate’s comprehension of written passages. Applicants are required to read and interpret the text, answering a range of questions related to the passage.
These vary from direct questions about content, to questions on the inferences which can be made from the available information. All questions are multiple choice and require a ‘Yes’, ‘No’, or ‘Cannot Say’ response.
Verbal reasoning tests give an indication of a candidate’s ability to rapidly absorb written information and make the necessary deductions to settle upon solid conclusions.
LSEG logical reasoning tests
LSEG also uses a logical reasoning test in its psychometric testing rounds. Logical reasoning tests, in contrast to verbal reasoning tests, are non-verbal assessments testing interpretation of shapes, patterns and numbers.
The questions require candidates to identify the next figure or integer in a sequence from a set of options.
The tests are used to assess problem-solving skills and logical thinking, and do not require any prior knowledge. Accustoming yourself with the format of the test and the types of questions included will, however, improve your chances.
LSEG telephone interview
Once past the psychometric testing stage, candidates have the opportunity to impress at a telephone interview.
LSEG values original thinking and will be looking for evidence of this throughout a conversation about the business and sector. It is important to fully answer the questions asked, providing relevant examples that evidence your points.
Candidates that are clear on their motivation for wanting to join LSEG and pro-active in asking pertinent questions will make the best impression.
LSEG virtual assessment centre
The final stage of the process is a virtual assessment centre. During this, candidates will be put through their paces in a variety of work-related exercises. One of these is likely to be a group conversational exercise.
LSEG advises candidates to speak up and participate fully in all exercises. Before beginning each task, ensure you understand the instructions and are clear on the output that is required.
It is worth noting that LSEG uses each assessment centre exercise to test multiple competencies, so there is more than one opportunity to display a given skill.
Don’t be disheartened by a bad performance in one of the rounds. Learn from your mistakes and display your resilience and ability to adapt to the recruitment team.
