Sony Application Process
Depending on the role you have applied for, the application process can be lengthy. You can apply for as many positions as you want through the online job search portal.
Sony online application
To begin the application process, you must create a candidate profile. This is used to apply for jobs, makes for a streamlined candidate experience and allows your details to be searchable by any recruiter within Sony.
In the candidate profile, you will share details about your education, qualifications and experience, as well as specific information relating to the position you have applied for. This information stays on your profile, so you can apply for further jobs if you want to, and it can be easily edited.
You can attach a CV and a cover letter to the profile to complete the application form.
Once you have found and applied for a role, you will receive confirmation from the online portal to let you know that it was received. A member of the Talent Acquisition team will review your application to check that you have the necessary qualifications and experience for the role you have applied for.
Sony Aptitude Tests
For some roles, you may be required to take one or more aptitude tests to assess your inherent abilities.
Sony has been known to use SHL assessments, and you can expect to take these early in the recruitment process.
Sony verbal reasoning
In verbal reasoning assessments, you are provided with a short paragraph of text which you need to read, understand and analyse to answer a question. Using the information in the text, you must decide if the answer to the question is true, false, or you cannot say.
This isn’t an English test, but it does require fast reading and good comprehension skills, as the language used is quite formal. There are usually about 30 questions in an SHL verbal reasoning test, with between 17 and 19 minutes to complete.
Sony logical reasoning
The logical reasoning assessment takes the form of what is known as an inductive reasoning test. This measures your problem-solving skills, and uses shapes and images to assess how you can recognise patterns.
In the test, you will be provided with a series of shapes that have a rule that creates a pattern, with a missing element. There are several possible answers.
Inductive reasoning tests are timed and short, often under 20 minutes. They are useful for employers who want to know whether you have what it takes to make the right decisions with limited information.
Sony numerical reasoning
The numerical reasoning assessment is not a maths test. You will be provided with numerical data, in the form of a table, graph or chart, with questions relating to the information that have multiple-choice answers.
You will need to read, understand and analyse the information in the table or graph, and will have to use basic operators to choose the right answer. You can often use a scrap piece of paper, and even sometimes a calculator to help, but these tests are timed and you must work quickly.
Sony technical tests
A technical test is an assessment of your level of skill, and you might find these in a number of roles. Administrative roles might need you to complete a typing test, while more technical roles might include a coding assessment.
Unlike traditional aptitude tests that are assessing your potential and inherent skills, technical tests are looking to assess your current skill level to make sure that you are qualified to perform the tasks required in the role.
